TO DO Award 2019 Open Eyes, India

“Open Eyes“ – opening our eyes to new perspectives: In 2011 in Delhi, India, the tourism inititative Open Eyes was founded by Anna Alaman from Spain. It is a social enterprise with the main objective of enhancing opportunities for women through the promotion of various social projects. With “Women in Tourism“, new jobs are created around tourism and the women, including blind women, are being prepared for their new activities. The organisation takes care of the financial and organisational matters. Many women now work as artists, masseuses, taxi drivers, or city guides. At a centre near Jaipur, for example, the women are trained in the production of high quality handicraft items – which are popular with tourists and are even exported to Europe. Furthermore, a café in Agra is run by women who became victims of acid attacks. The projects already show effects: The women’s income has increased considerably – by 25 percent and more, and together with their income also their self-confidence and independence. Open Eyes shows their guests a picture of India that has a focus on realities. The touristic products and services are concentrated in New Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra, encompassing wellness, round trips within India and guided city tours, e.g. to the markets and neighbourhoods of Delhi.
